Awareness of Each of the Five Senses (~2 minute meditation)
As this audio podcast jumps right into the meditation, without any "administrative announcements" please review the following steps in preparation for this Guided Meditation:
- Find a comfortable position - either lying down or sitting comfortably (and safely - don't fall out of your chair if you fall asleep).
- A silent space free of external distractions is best.
- Gently close your eyes or fix a low gaze, letting your eyelids rest naturally.
Now listen intently as Will guides you through this meditation.
If you get distracted, make note of the distraction and gently bring your attention back to the practice.
If you fall asleep, don’t worry. You probably needed the sleep! This podcast will be here for you whenever you wish to return to it.

Will:5.
Will:4 3, 2, 1.
Will:When you are in the throws of an overwhelming emotion, it
Will:can hook you in completely.
Will:Mindfulness practice helps you notice when this happens.
Will:When you do notice you are feeling overwhelmed, you can use this exercise to
Will:bring yourself back to the here and now.
Will:It takes just a few minutes, extendsan invitation to be present.
Will:Leaving the eyes open, notice five things that you can see.
Will:You can say them out loud or silently in your head.
Will:With each of the five sights, pause to take them in completely.
Will:Next notice four things you can feel in the body.
Will:Note them out loud or in your head and rest your attention with each
Will:sensation for a few deep breaths.
Will:Name three things you can hear.
Will:Try to choose three different sounds, not the same noise three times.
Will:Now, note two things you can smell.
Will:If you cannot seem to smell two things in this moment, feel free to move somewhere,
Will:to smell something more closely.
Will:Finally.
Will:Find one thing that you can taste, it may be the leftover taste of a meal,
Will:your toothpaste, or just your breath.
Will:If you cannot connect with one in the moment, note a taste you enjoy in general.
